Contact Joiner
The contact joiner project is different than anything Ember has done before, it is based on contact sheets used in film photography. Contact sheets are a print of mini versions of all the photos from a camera roll, which are used to see the images and help determine which to print. For this project, students practiced by taking a minimum of twelve photos of different scenes which were later edited to appear as a one image comprised of a bunch of smaller photos. After practicing students were assigned to work on two more contact joiners, the first is supposed to have at least 24 images to create the compilation and the second is a contact joiner with a twist. For the final work, students are supposed to play with sizing, movement, different angles, and related but "misplaced" subjects in order to create a contact joiner that is outside all 24 boxes. Ember found this project to be a good challenge as she struggled with spacing and remembering exactly where the last photo was taken. Despite this challenge Ember enjoyed the project as it is essentially a compilation of a bunch of her favorite type of photo to take, fill the frame. Ember's favorite contact joiner is "Clock" This is because of how the photos making up this contact joiner are so intricate and detailed each each being able to stand on its own yet holding more power and meaning put together.
