Open Roll
The purpose of this project is to allow students to shoot subjects that they find to be interesting while practicing techniques learned throughout the year. Students focused on subject matter, subject placement, lighting, coloration, and rule of thirds. Ember enjoys photographing human subjects because she enjoys capturing emotion expressed through facial expressions and body language. Embers two favorite photos from this project are "Falling Sky" and "Shining at the Lake". She likes "Falling Sky" because it holds a beautiful contrast and is not at all what it appears to be. Though this picture almost appears to be a sparkover sky, it is actually a waterfall hiding inside a cave. She is likes "Shining at the Lake" because she has always been a fan of Stephon King and the suspenseful stories that capture the minds of adults in the ways camp fire stories capture the imaginations of children. She found that subject she was photographing would glare at the camorra when asked to smile. When reviewing the images she was struck by the resemblance these photos had to her mental image of the Danny Torrance from Stephon King's "The Shining".
